08.03.2004 Update!
- Bob had another chicken cook-out at Eagle Beach. My uncle Barney made a wonderful rice pilaf, in addition to the
chicken, wurst, salmon, bread, and other goodies:
- Yarr! Avast matey, give me yer booty! Justin and Peter parrying:
- So I went over to Jeffy's house this Wednesday to sleep over the day before I was going to climb Mount McGinnis with
him. He presented me with a "Jeffy Problem": Either help me out or get out of my way because I have lots of work to do. He
had just bought 10 Sockeye Salmon and 5 Silver Salmon and needed to process them. So over about 4 hours we prepared them.
Jeffy would cut the fillets from the fish, and I took out the rib bones and packaged the fish in FoodSaver bags (all the air
is sucked out - you might have seen the infomercials on TV for these devices.) Here is a picture of the tub of fish in the
middle of work:
- Here is Jeffy filleting:
- Here I am carefully cutting out the rib bones:
- Unfortunately we only made it half way up McGinnis because we got completely rained out. However I was able to get some
nice pictures of the glacier:
-
-
- This picture is a little misleading because the light blue is actually the glacier. We went under the glacier into a
large 40 ft high cavern. Rick and Peter are facing the camera from a small little nitch:
- Unfortunately my camera got completely soaked so I had to open it up and let it dry over the weekend - so I wasn't able
to take any good pictures of grog fest. Grog fest is a yearly weekend kegger party on Indian Cove Island that Rick Busch and
his wife Theresa host. A 1 meter cubed pile of wood is made, that is interlaced with rocks. The fire is lit, and when it
burns down hot rocks remain. Seaweed is piled onto the rocks; then 60 lbs of food: Salmon, Crab, Oysters, Prawns, Corn, Potatoes, Carrots, Onions, garlic, Squash, etc; then
another layer of seaweed, then a bucket of saltwater, and finally a large tarp over everything. After about an hour of
steaming a magnificient buffet is ready!
Here is the one single picture I got of grogfest. This years addition was a triathalon. 1/4 mile swim, 12 mile bike, and
4 mile run. Here is Rick peddling towards the finish line:
- Unfortunately the sliding door of my house (van) came of last night. Luckily I got Jeffy to come by and assist me in
putting it back on:
