07.19.2004 Update!
- The bus broke down last Tuesday right in front of Fisherman's Bend
parking lot. I ran down the road and got my friend Nick to help me push it
into the lot. It turns out the gearshift broke!
- I took the part and went to a machine shop and got them to repair the
part at a meer $80/hr. Luckily it was only 1/2hr of work! Too bad I
couldn't watch the machinist at work. I installed the part on Friday and
the van is putzing around just fine now.
- I received a question of where exactly the van is located. Here you
can see Fisherman's Bend (the gas station and marine store), and the upper
parking lot for Andrew's marina. To the left you see a yellow bus, and
that's were the van resides.
- Here is Nick Cooley, the guy who gives me free showers and lends a
hand with anything that I ask. He's a quiet gentleman from Idaho studying
at the University.
- Another friend of mine, Jeffy, lives in the awesome place called the
witchhat house, designed by the same people who made the Alaskan Hotel.
- I was out on sandy beach on Douglas Island and saw this very
interesting piece of old equipment:
- Here's the main wheel on it:
- Also there was this great view from Sandy Beach:
- This Friday my aunt Alice and uncle Barney (Rick's parents) came up to
stay in Juneau for a while. Here is the whole family as we had a delicous
meal of megy leves (cherry soup), fresh Salmon, fresh Crab, rice, beet
greens, and some Hungarian pastries.
- There was a nice sunset and great view at my aunt and uncles
apartment:
