PROGRAMS > MCIS > OVERVIEW The Master in Computer and Information Science (M.C.I.S.) is an applied, professional degree program that is specifically designed to combine a thorough education in computer and information science, with applications in the areas of business, engineering, mathematics, or other relevant fields. The MCIS degree was significantly modified in Spring, 2003, to include several new courses that reflect emerging areas in technology. New courses added to the MCIS program include Internet Programming, Bioinformatics, Distributed Object Systems (emphasis on Web Services), Information Security and Mobile Computing. The program prepares a student to meet the constantly increasing demands for upper echelon computer professionals Career Information Financial Assitance The CIS department and the College of Business Administration offers a limited number of graduate assistantships each year. A student may apply for an assistantship by completing an application form from the Graduate Business Programs Office. Copies of the completed applications are circulated to department chairs, program directors, and other appropriate parties within the College. Interviews with prospective graduate assistants are arranged directly by department chairs and others who hire and supervise graduate assistants. Assistantships are not awarded in the CIS Department until a student has been in a graduate program for at least one semester. |
