Computer Science Track

Overview

The Computer Science track (CSC) is recommended for students who want a stronger foundation in computer science compared to the CIS track. This track is also a better preparation for students planning to go to graduate school in computer science.

Major Requirements

A total of 128 credit hours must be earned in order to complete the CSC track of the BSCIS degree. The following is a complete guide to the academic requirements for the CSC track along with a recommended sequence of courses.

General Education Requirement

The General Education Requirements account for approximately 56-60 hours of undergraduate coursework. Students should see an adviser in the Business College Office (BU 219) before choosing electives to satisfy General Education Requirements in the following areas: Mathematics or Logic, Arts/Humanities, Nonwestern Culture and Civilization, Western Culture and Civilization, Social Science, Natural Science, Human Diversity and the African-American Experience, and Writing Across the Curriculum.

CSC Track Requirements

The degree requirements change depending on the term you entered the CSC program. Please follow the section that corresponds to your admission date:

You are required to follow the Fall 2009 degree requirements if you were admitted in Fall 2009 or later. If you were admitted prior to Fall 2009, you may complete CSC degree requirements as existing prior to Fall 2009. Irrespective of the date of admission, all students have the option to elect the Fall 2009 curriculum.

Faculty

The faculty in the department have a wide range of research interests and offer students the opportunity to work closely with them on exciting and challenging research projects. Many CIS faculty members are active in professional organizations. You are encouraged to contact a faculty advisor and discuss your program of study.

Internships and Co-op Opportunities

Internships are available through the department of Computer & Information Science and the Career Services Center. Cooperative education opportunities are available through the Career Services Center at (216) 687-2233. The pre-requisite for a co-op position is CSC 121.
