Students are permitted to receive academic credit for IST 203 by passing examinations rather than taking the entire course. This process is intended for students who know the course material but cannot prove it from previous transcripts or grade reports. The following material describes the policies and procedures for receiving credit by exam (CBE) for IST 203:
Process
- Schedule an interview with the IST 203 Coordinator. During that interview you’ll receive a username and password and some hints for doing well on the exam.
- Complete the Department Credit by Examination (CBE) form and have it signed by the Department Chair.
- Take the completed CBE form to the Bursar's office and pay the cashier applicable fee (current amount is $20.00). Keep the receipt and the form together.
- Schedule a time with the CIS Department office to take the Test Out Exam. Hours for scheduling the test are between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm Monday through Friday. The exam could take 2 to 3 hours to complete so allow enough time to finish before 5:00 pm.
- On the day of the exam, bring the receipt and the CBE form with you and attempt the questions in the computer simulated application. You will know the results of the examination immediately.
- The IST 203 Coordinator will inform the Department Chair of the results of the exam. If the student received a grade of 70% on all units the Department Chair will sign the CBE form stating the requirements were met. Partial credit will not be given for successfully passing individual units.
- The CBE form will be sent to the Registrar’s office and will become part of the student’s permanent record.
Additional Information
- You can schedule the computer based exam any time during the semester. However, you may NOT be registered for an IST 203 class and attempt the IST Test Out Exam.
- You may NOT attend any of the IST 203 classes unless you are registered for the class. Paying the CBE fee does NOT register you for the course.
- It is strongly recommended that each test out candidate purchase the textbook that is currently being used for IST 203 and that the textbook and CD be reviewed prior to testing.
- You may attempt to test out of the course only once.
